Plasma Physics

Division of Plasma Physics (DPP)

Plasma is an ionized-quasineutral state of matter which exhibits collective behavior and can exist at diverse conditions, e.g., much below room temperatures to above the temperature at the core of the Sun. Although its occurrence on Earth is only during lightning and in laboratory experiments, more than 99% of visible matter in the universe exists in the plasma state. It is of interest as it has found applications in diverse areas such as, agriculture, controlled thermonuclear fusion, electronics, gas lasers, lightning, medicine, pollution control, space science etc.
