President’s Message

Dear valued members,
On behalf of the Executive Committee, I extend warm greetings and heartfelt congratulations to all members and well-wishers of the Nepal Physical Society (NPS) on electing me as your President unanimously. It is my distinct honor, privilege, and profound responsibility to lead this prestigious society for the 2026–2028 tenure. I am deeply grateful for this absolute trust and consensus.
Founded in 1984, NPS is one of the oldest pioneer scientific societies in Nepal, featuring seven chapters across all seven provinces and over 1,500 life members. The society actively trains the trainers, teachers, and researchers through academic skill development activities. It also trains secondary-level students through the nationwide Nepal Physics Olympiad (NePhO) for the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO). We continuously publish our biannual scientific journal (JNPS) and maintain strong global and reciprocal relations with APS, IUPAP, AAPPS, and ANPA. In the 21st century, the importance of fundamental scientific research is paramount. Physics spans from fundamental particles, atomic nuclei, atoms, and molecules to collective behaviors and the cosmological scale. It has expanded into interdisciplinary cutting-edge fields of physics like biophysics, socio-economic physics, and information physics, proudly referred to as “physics imperialism.”
During this tenure, our core strategic priorities include:
• Hybrid & Online Forums: Blending on-site and online formats to boost participation among national and international researchers.
• Career Paths & Structural Renewal: Creating opportunities for new graduates and doctoral-level scholars while reviewing traditional divisions.
• Youth Outreach: Enhancing junior sessions and raising awareness of physics heritage to inspire the next generation.
In recent years, the rapid advancement of quantum science and artificial intelligence (AI) has deeply impacted research methodologies. We view AI not as a shortcut to avoid thinking but as an effective tool to deepen a physicist’s logical and analytical capabilities. When AI (NL, DL, ML) generates an unexpected result, a robust physics education and the human mind remain indispensable to decode the underlying mystery. Keeping Nepal at the forefront of scientific research, development, and innovation, our team stands committed to sharing the wonder of nature and science with society.
